Re: Monetary gifts

Great question! I've been told that it's tacky to ask for monetary gifts. (I would prefer monetary gifts. I don't want another toaster, blender, etc). "Word of mouth" is a good way of asking. You can tell friends or family to spread the word.

Re: Monetary gifts

Although I preferred monetary gifts, I left if to my MOHs, my mother and family to spread the word.

My cousin got married last month and she had her mom, grand mother and bridal party spread the word.

I didn't ask directly because I didn't want to offend anyone -- my hubby's family is funny like that. However, a lot of brides are asking for what they want in a nice poetic way.

Re: Monetary gifts

here is how my mother worded mine:

"If we are honered with a gift from you, may we respectfully request a gift of money, to help the dream of our new home come true."

I love that! That's an excellent way of wording that.

Re: Monetary gifts

Last night we had the family round and they were discussing what type of gifts we would ask for. I wouldn't mind getting new household stuff because we plan to upgrade to a house just before the wedding, but some members of the family are saying why don't we just ask various people to contribute to the wedding such as the flowers, reception venue etc.

I think this is a bit cheeky - asking people for money! My nan said that she's definitely not giving money - she'll "get the gift she wants to give"!!

Really not sure about asking for money - I'm already waiting for the backlash from the old school Caribbean members of our family who will be outraged that they will have to pay at the bar after a certain time at the wedding!

thanks for asking soon. as a matter of fact, i am doing awesome!! fh and i had a great weekend together and we are both jumping outta our skin to get married and start a new life together. we have overcome so many trials, but now i know i am walking in my destiny!!

we were going to ask for gift cards as well, but my ex wedding planner said money would be best because we may be stuck with value on a giftcard that we may never use, so we just stuck with cash.
