Most useful & practical tips you used or plan to use...

1. Worried about AC problems? Have your wedding in the Fall, Winter, or early Spring. Or an outside wedding in early spring! (I read this online yesterday)

(I agree. We did March 3rd in N. FL area. Even though it was 60-70 degrees, it was warm enough to do my strapless gown without worry of freezing, the church-with its history of AC issues was well conditioned. ALSO, the mid-morning wedding brought a refreshed bunch, and beatiful natural lighting with my church's tall windows let them turn on about half the lights. This gave me an unintentional-but perfect addition to my "Spring Garden" theme, plus no need for fans!)

2. Please get your location checked out. Most people always view, and re-view everything about the reception spaces....But don't forget the CEREMONY LOCATION!!!! Especially the CHURCH....Especially if its not YOUR HOME CHURCH....If it IS, still review policies, procedures, what IS and what IS NOT allowed....Don't want to learn 2 days before the wedding that the AC is broken. Stay in contact with the facilities director and make sure you get the green light on whatever you need. No need to find out too late that your photographer can't roam around the church getting the shots you spend good money for!

1.Establish a dress code if applicable

If applicable, decide upon a dress code

that fits in with what you are trying to

achieve from your event. Consider a theme for

corporate and private functions. A black tie dress code gives

an evening function a touch of class and can create the right atmosphere. Whatever you decide to do ensure that

you communicate any dress code to your guests to avoid any embarrassment.

2.The wedding ceremony is the main event

1) I will definately have an on the day co-ordinator

2)I will take time- even 30 minutes to be with FH alone!! yes ALONE-just to soak up everything that is going on around us, and remember it. He is my best friend..so it will be good to do some secret sharing and memory cataloging - lots of people have said this made all the difference because the day goes by so fast!!

1) FH and I want to have a simple 15 to 20 minute ceremony then just party soon afterwards, so I knew that we needed to find a place where we can have the ceremony at the same place as the reception. I didn't want our guests arriving at one place for just that short period of time only to get back in their cars and search for the reception.

2) Since the wedding is going to be outdoors, I've made sure that everyone knew that right off the bat. I'll also have allergy medicine, pain relievers and visine in a pretty lil' basket ready for whatever.

3)Just as Bumblebee said, check out that location! I've been to my venue several times last spring in my sundresses and heels to make sure that there weren't any mosquito or bug problems. Thankfully, they ment it when they said that they keep the area sprayed for bugs.

1) Make sure the venue is 'user friendly' for the elderly; evevators, ramps, handicap restrooms, air conditioning.

2) Have individually packaged OTC meds on hand for headaches and allergies.

3) Make sure my planners are ready to step it up. I don't want a lot of last minute running around.

4) Stay on top of my RSVP's!!

5) Ensure the venue will not be undergoing any renovations. (it happens)

1.Make sure that the Wedding Party does not have gum in their mouths. I hate to see gum chewing walking down the aisle!!!!! :0(

Re: Most useful & practical tips you used or plan to use...

I just said this in a previous post so I thought I'd add it here.

Money saving reception tips:

Negotiate on your menu...They offer the pre-packaged menus for your convenience, but its really for theirs too.

1. Do a bare-bones, simplified menu in your mind or consult with someone who knows receptions and take YOUR options to them....

2. As for a quote on: 1 meat/(appropriate sauce or gravy), 1-2 vegetables, 1 starch, tea, water, rolls, salad, and add additional foods (2nd meat, 2nd starch, dessert, vegetarian offering, fruit table) from there.

3. Make your 2nd starch into a vegetarian offering if you know you have many vegetarians in your guest list. You can do a pasta or rice pilaf, and provide an alfredo sauce or lemon sauce, with other veggies for your guest...

4. Don't be afraid to ask to trade something for something else....If you have lots of drinkers in the family and want to accomodate, you may (this is popular) provide a signature alcoholic beverage....or you may do a 1-2 hours of wells (not as popular name-brand liquors, beers, wines-but equally as good), or 1-2 rounds or hours of a red or white wine....to be served AT the table.

5. If you can get chair covers do it...if you planned on getting them via private vendor it may be cheaper using the venue's

6. Always budget for the 20-28% gratuity AUTOMATICALLY added to the reception fee, PLUS the state tax. So sometimes that can be an extra 400.00 or more on TOP of the quote they give you unless they SPECIFY its added in the quote...

7. BIG deposit wherever possible. Pay final fee in full...Don't spread out the payments if you don't have too....Or at least have the money set aside and earmarked JUST for payment...

8. Pay with a certified or cashier's check, or credit card. These are traceable, keeps funny business AWAY from your personal accounts, and is easy to record....We paid all vendors (friends and all) except the flowers which was paid in cash....Small amount.
