Has anyone seen Dreamgirls or Pursuit of Happyness yet? I loved them both!
I can't wait all of your reviews of either of them.

I haven't seen either but I would like to.I heard Jennifer Hudson's remake of "And I Am Telling You" last night on the radio.I really didn't care for it.Don't get me wrong, she can sing.I like the original version better.
Yes my husband and I went to see Dreamgirls last week. I totally enjoyed it! I want to see Pursuit of Happiness as well. I heard it was an awesome movie. We have Monday off next week, maybe I can make it a family affair.

You don't many positive portrayals of African American men these days, especially in movies. I think that Will Smith and his son Jaden did an excellent job portraying the story of Chris Gardner and his son. I loved how the movie wasn't twisted and "hollywood-ized" and stayed true to the book.
I think that the movie has an important message that speaks to all age groups and all cultures. Plus Jaden is just too cute!

Hearing the song on the radio and seeing it in the movie were two completly different experiences for me. When I heard it on the radio, I thought, oh that's nice. When I saw her emotion on screen and think about the real-life aspect of it (she was kicked off American Idol and now she's getting her sweet revenge) it made my heart leap. People in the movie theater actually burst into applause after the song. I've never seen that in a movie before.
Overall I think that Jennifer Hudson was the star of the movie. Every scene that she is in has a sparkle to it, that's lacking when she's not on screen. Beyonce and Jamie Foxx did okay but for all of the hype, I expected more from them.
Rumor has it that Beyonce really wanted the role of Effie but the director would not give it to her. I think she was meant for Deena's role simply because she has lived out her own girl group drama. (Destiny's Child loosing two members, replacing them with another.)
Eddie Murphy surprised me playing a more serious role than most of his others. He and Jennifer might get nominated when Oscar time comes around.

I saw Pursuit of Happyness and I liked it. Although, I think the previews/trailers showed most of the movie, I liked it. I would've loved for the movie to continue so that I could've seen how he progressed up the corporate ladder.
I haven't seen Dreamgirl's, but I heard J.H. did the darn thing! I'm happy for her. Hopefully, I will see it this weekend.

I agree Ajia, my husband bought the soundtrack. I didn't like it on the sound track either, but when I heard it being song during the movie, I was blown away! Everyone was clapping once the song was over -- truly amazing. Jennifer Hudson is definitely headed for greatness.

I completely agree. I hope that she wins awards and I know that she is bound for great things.

I have seen dreamgirls and am suppose to see pusuit of happyness after work. Dreamgirls was a good movie, however it was not what everyone made it out to be.
I have yet to see either movie, but I am looking fwd to it. The way you guys describe J.H. performance reminds me of how I felt about The Five Heartbeats movie. When Eddie Kane Jr sang a House is a Heart 4 Love and hit that note, I broke up. When I brought the soundtrack I was greatly disappointed.

My FH and I have seen The Pursuit of Happyness, but I haven't seen Dream Girls yet. I thought P of H was just AWESOME! I loved that movie from the beginning to the end. I was fighting to hide back tears, and at the end, I just let it all out! I just hope Dream Girls is what everyone is making it out to be.

I'm glad that someone(Jennifer Hudson) besides Beyonce,is getting some recognition.I heard that she beat out Fantasia for that role.I would have like to seen ex-Idol contestant Frenchie Davis in that role. She got a raw deal.(Remember Frenchie was the 2nd season contestant that was kicked off for having topless pics on the internet).God Blessed her, she's playing Effie in the Dreamgirls production on Broadway now.
I haven't seen either movie yet but I will this weekend.
I'm so glad that someone besides Beyonce is in the limelight. Jennifer Hudson is truly talented and has a very strong voice. Beyonce is over rated to me. Big ups to JH!
Platinum, Frenchie is also starring on Broadway in Rent too. I saw it in New York and she did an excellent job.
Frenchie went to Howard University with me. We had a fund raiser on campus to send her to the American Idol auditions and we were absolutely crushed when they kicked her off. I wrote a very long heated and passionate editorial in our college paper about it.
She is kicking on Broadway now and I know that the AI producers are kicking themselves now.
