Do any of you know of any nice churches in harlem besides rev. calvin butts church? I have a feeling his church will be too expensive. I'm having my wedding reception at alhambras ballroom and so i need to find a church in harlem to have the ceremony this way i wont inconvenience my guest i want them to be in the same vicinity or borough at least.

Msd....I assume you do not have a church home of your own, and what is this about a church being expensive to marry....so churches charge to perform God's will!?...unbelievable. Listen if you can not find a church, maybe consider using the same hall where the reception will be held, maybe a courtyard there or a terrace, that should be nice and your guest remain in the same vacinity.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Congratulations! Check out the Covenant Avenue Baptist Church or Riverside Memorial Church. If they can't help you you may want to go to nyc.gov click on tourism and search for Churches in Harlem. There are plenty of churches uptown. Best Wishes.

St. Aloysius, built in 1904.

Churches do not charge if you are already a member of the church, if not there is a small fee, but usually they only take donations, i.e. you pay for the flowers at the church for service the next day, etc. There are churches that are historic and may not be open for service, but may be for special events. Consider St. Aloysius and All Saints Roman Catholic churches. All Saints was designed by James Renwick, Jr. in 1872, in high Victorian-gothic style, and William Renwick designed St. Aloysius in 1904. Or how about a catholic or episcopal cathedral. Lutheran churches will marry anyone I think. Good luck.

Re: nyc members

yes they do charge if you are not a member and unfortunately i don't belong to any church but as Rosetta stated they refer to it as a donation which is fine with me i just don't want to pay any more than 250-300 dollars and being that rev calvin butts and his church is kind well known i have a feeling it may be more than that. Thanks ladies for all of your suggestions . I am going to check out a few of them this weekend. Someone else suggested Riverside church to me also so maybe that'll b the first place i look plus i heard i can also have my pics taken by riverside park (nice background). My wedding plans are coming along so far i've found my wedding dress its from Maggie only i cant find a picture of it online to save my life lol and my bridesmaids picked out their dresses which was from davinci bridal style 9077 in lilac so everything is coming together slowly but surely and i hope all is well with the rest of you.

How did you do this weekend MrsDonaldson? You may want to look into the United House of Prayer on 125th Street and Eight Avenue in Harlem. Keep us posted.

Hi MrsDonaldson, my big day is not until 11/06. I am however doing research and buying a lot of things now so that I don't have to worry about it later. I will be moving soon also (to NJ). I am looking for a church in NYC too. I'm going to visit some of the places listed here on this site and see what I come up with. I want to have a small intimate ceremony with close family and friends so I'm looking for a church that will accommodate me and my budget. When is your big day?

I agree...the more time you have the better it will be for you to take your time and purchase everything that you want, this way when the day approaches, you will not have too much to stress about.

Hi Rhonda my wedding day is July 22,2006. It would be nice if this site had a place where we could post our wedding pictures or does it?

Mrsdonaldson, I think this site does have a way to send your wedding pictures. Rosetta, would be able to point you in the right direction as to how to do it -- she's out of town for 2 weeks. Perhaps on of the other ladies know how to do it. I would love to see all the pictures of the ladies on their special day. That would just add new meaning to everything. Take care.
