other people wedding director

ok not only do i have to consult for my own wedding but my fmil calls for her friends for advice on how to do their weddings. ok. yes i am taking this as a compliment :( now she is asking about a unity saying (?) her co worker is getting married on a cruise that does not allow candles so the bride to be has heard of a unity saying(?) that is in replacement of the lighting of the candles. I am thinking along the lines of a short poem and a show of symbolism, tying string to bind together the hands, something. so she says go online with those women u chat with and ask them.

so ladies the novice fdil is asking what a unity saying is and how is it conducted. oh and u should also take that as a compliment:)

She can do a sand ceremony as well. Lots of people use sand instead of candles - especially for beach type themes or settings.

I haven't heard anyone do a unity saying except if you consider the times that the couple had this "script" to which the broom would say something about becoming one, then the bride says something about becoming one, then together they join in with a phrase about their spirits and bodies and families and blah blah blah becoming one instead of two in God's eyes. They had their pastor help them with the wording since it's biblical, I think .

The sand ceremony is a great alternative. Great suggestion Classy. I've seen my pastor use a rope also in symbolizing unity.

lol! My family is from the deep woods of east, Texas...so I know what you mean. It took me years to find out what my grandpa says and he claims he still doesn't understand what I'm saying.

Here is a guide written by an ebay wedding seller I purchased something from...I forgot what I bought from them, but anyway:

This guide is to provide individuals planning a wedding with information about the unity sand ceremony set, including how to perform the ceremony and Do-It-Yourself ideas.

Sand Ceremony:

The Unity Sand Ceremony is a novel alternative for the popular "unity candle ceremony" incorporated into many of today's weddings. The sand ceremony set is also more appropriate for an outdoor setting or a beach wedding. The essence is to symbolize the union of "two into one." Once the colored sand mixes, it cannot be separated again, thus providing the couple with a beautiful visual representation of their two lives joining in marriage.

There are many different ways to perform the ceremony. Below is an example of one way the ceremony can be performed.

Step One: The Groom will commence by pouring a portion of his colored sand into the central glass vase.

Step Two: The Bride will follow by pouring a portion of her colored sand also into the central vase creating a layered effect.

Step Three: To complete the ceremony, the Groom and Bride simultaneously pour the balance of their sand into the central container. To make this process a little easier, create a funnel using decorative paper. Personalize the funnel by including names, date or even poetry that holds a special meaning for the Bride and Groom. The co-mingling of the colored sand represent the joining of the Bride and Groom. Consult with your wedding officiate in order to customize the readings and sentiments that will accompany this ceremony.

Step Four: Following the wedding, the two outside vases can be used to display fresh flowers while the central vase will remain a cherished keepsake of your wedding day.

For religious ceremonies, couples can have the officiate start by pouring white sand into the center vase to represent the couple

Very sad. A lot of things aren't coming together. But, to not hijack Raysbride's thread, I'll post under mine. NEVER plan a wedding in 6 weeks....
