Re: Potluck Reception

My mom just suggested that to me. I think its a cool idea especially if you arent having a huge wedding. Just assign or let people brings a dish and heat it up. This also depends on your reception location. Check the kitchen accomidations before you decide. Where I will have my wedding the kitchen is in the hall and free for me to use.

I think a potluck reception is a wondeful idea and moneysaving as well!!! If my people weren't scattered all over the globe, I would be trying to have one as well!!!

Have a great day!

Same here with my family.... threjolyn...do it girl! It makes everything more intimate and fun. Plus you can get some good home cooking...just make sure you can vouch for everyone's ability to do a good job and keep the food at the proper temperature. You can rent those buffet dishes with the flames at the bottom to keep the food warm:)

My sister told me that it is not proper etiquette to have people bring a covered dish to the reception. I respect my elders but she really is making me mad and I am going to ask her if she is going to pay for a cater to bring some food

Hi there ThreJolyn, trends are changing all the time. I went to a wedding where they had an "international food" theme. The food was absolutely delicious and the guests provided all of the food dishes. It was great. This is YOUR wedding. Do it your way. My only advice would be to make you have hostesses that are on point and will provide a nice set-up so that things are coordinated very well.

Rony is right...do it YOUR way.

You can rent chaffing dishes from a company that rents wedding equipment in your area. You probably have to buy those flame things (I forgot what they are called) from the grocery store but they are very inexpensive. I'm just concerned about keeping the food warm to prevent microbial growth.

Re: Potluck Reception

sounds good to me. one thing i would worry about a potluck is food poisoning & food allergies. same thing i would worry about with any potluck. If you agree to go this route, ask your guests if it is possible to list the ingredients in them - some folks are allergic to peanuts, some people cook things with peanut oil - potentially lethal.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda

I dint even think about that one Mrs.lee...god looking out.Oh and by the way I went to the bakery to enquire about pasteries for the wedding and I think its a go. They were really cheap like $.89 each or a full tray for like $89 I forgot how many were on the tray tho.
