Question.....?

........... after looking for different things we need for the wedding and setting a budget accordingly I was told that I have to buy the womens shoes, jewlery and get their hair done....Is this correct? And if so is this considered the gift or do I still need to buy gifts for them? I was just wondering how much are you spending or is reasonable for these things??

Re: Question.....?

It's your choice. Some brides buy the jewelry for the bridesmaids and use that as the gift.I think they should be responsible for their own hair styles though.

Re: Question.....?

platinumstyle is right, alvinslove. The jewelry is bought as a gift to your female attendants. Likewise the groom buys his gifts for his male attendants. The dresses and tuxes are the responsibility of the attendants unless you can afford to get the dresses they need and then all of it can be your present to them. I suggestn getting quality jewelry if it is to be a gift. Think about what you would like for yourself and use that as a guide.

Re: Question.....?

Hey Alvin's love, it is your choice. I personally have selected sterling silver jewelry sets for my attendants. (Rosetta is right about buying quality jewelry). I've been buying these sets over a period of time. In this way it will not be overwhelming for me. They are responsible for their own shoes, hair, nails, etc. As far as a reasonable price, only you know what you can afford. Shop around you will be amazed at what is out there. Good luck!

Re: Question.....?

I've heard that the bouquets are on the bride and I guess the jewelry if you like but the dress and shoes are the responsibility of the bridal party.

Re: Question.....?

Thanks ladies. I will have my girls to buy their own shoes and they will do each other hair and nails (one of my girls does hair). I talked to my matron of honor about the jewlery and we decided to make our own jewlery. Instead of buying something plain that anyone could easily get I'm going to go to Michaels of another craft store and buy the stuff I need. We can make the jewlery and do after my wedding shower, it will add more sentimental value to their gifts.

Re: Question.....?

Since we will be making our own jewlery I think I can afford to get them gifts,a good trip to the hair salon will always work for me. I have a friend who does hair and since I'm a friend she only charges $25 even for a nice weave. And let me tell you she can hook a sistah up! As for the shoes they will be buying their own.If I can find the right stuff we may even be making our own bouquets, boutonniers and mother corsages....lol

Ettiquette says to never ask for money for a gift. You should have your immediate family and bridal party spread the word that you and FH would rather have money then gifts.

Re: Question.....?

I agree, not just because of etiquette, but from experience. I went to a wedding last summer and right inside the program there was a poem (cute...but...) asking for money. Although I understand the need, it was a little gawdy for it to be right inside the program. Perhaps it was the placment that bothered to me?, kind of took away from the moment. I think discreetly passing along the word is a better way to go. I'm going to do the same...don't need pots, towels or regular newlywed items. Money is what'll help the most.
Good luck.

Re: Question.....?

I have never heard of these poems...How does a poem like that go? I guess I'm asking for an example if anyone has one....

However,i agree that the familyh should pass the word along

Hey Bumblebee.....I originally was going to add a poem in my invitation as an extra excerpt...but later on decided against it...but when I was thinking about it here's the poem I planned on using:

Soon you will hear our wedding bell
As friends and family wish us well
Our household thoughts are not brand new
We'll have twice the things and less space for two
Since we have our share of dishes and beddings
We'll have availiable if you choose a wishing well at our wedding
But most importantly we ask of you, your prayers,
your presence, and blessings too!

Re: Question.....?

I think we discussed this in a previous blog. For me it is all about wording. On the bottom of the invites I have seen "While all gifts are appreciated, monetary gifts are preferred. On the programs does nt work since, if people are going to get a gift, by the time they receive the program at the wedding, duh, it's bought.

I think thats an elegant way to do that. I think that the program is a lovely place to put it too.

Oh shoot, I didn't consider that......Well, the invite may work too, but space constraints may not allow more than a line or two. You may consider just includng a nice little insert on pretty paper with the invitations with your poem, because it is very cute! Plus you can add cute pictures or graphics to make it lighthearted and fun. Plus, if your family members understand your situation, you might have your parents spread the word that monetary gifts are better! Let us know what you decide....
PS: You can always be kind of slick and just open a registry with JUST gift certificates....then you can use them for clothing, household needs or whatever....You can even open one at Sandles to contribute to a vacation trip...So you may want to give people who insist on going t the store and buying "something" that option.....Thats another way to direct people towards YOUR needs

I wrote this in another post but now my FH wants to put registry information on our information sheet (with hotel, church, and reception directions, itinerary, etc) cause he doesn't think his parents, or anyone else in his family should have to spread the word....so I will let you know what happens with that cause men don't always care about etiquette....Uuuggghhh........men.
