Re: Jamaican Colors Theme

You can always do a white dress and have the groom wear a black tux with the vest in gold (or yellow)...The bridesmaids can wear black with gold (or yellow) sashes. If you choose the gold, you can do yellow tropical flowers for the bouquets and boutainnaires.

I found this on a website:
Jamaica's color scheme is similar to its flag which has black, kelly green, and bright yellow. Basically, the colors are more primary.

RECEPTION:
I would use black tablecloths with yellow (or gold) fabric square overlays, table runners, or fabric panels that come down in front of a buffet table. Place large green tropical leaves in the table's center and clusters of red Anthuriums. Anthuriums are more Jamaican. Use votive candles on the tabletops and tiki torches if the party is outside.

For napkins, go with green and make beaded Jamaican napkin rings. Check your local craft store for black vinyl cord and "pony" beads in the colors black, red, green, and yellow.

You can also use the black cord and pony, shell, or wood beads to make party favor necklaces for everyone.

For a great wow effect, set up a big tropical photo mural with sand on the ground for people to take photos in front of. Add props such as beachcomber straw hats (more Caribbean but they'll work), and maybe a limbo stick! Place a Polaroid or digital camera nearby or use disposable cameras, which you could customize with "Jamaica" in the background.

Okay also....

You can do some good jamacian cuisine:

People can munch on mini jamacian beef patties and coco bread and kola before the wedding, or you can box the patties up in a cute box with a little note as a favor to go. You can provide tamarind balls as a favor or small serving of rum cake to go...You can also provide in a buffet, Jerk Chicken or Goat, Rice, and the appropriate everyday food for those with a limited palate.

I would do simple with the color choice and focus on the details like menu cards, invitations, flower choice, favors, music, (you may hire a band with steel drums), reggae and reggaeton music, soca, calypso, and even your centerpeices can be a nice frame with facts about Jamacia, and your seating chart can have the guests assigned to the "Duns River Falls" Table or the Spanishtown or Ocho Rios Table, and their menu cards can have a fun fact about their "table"...
I think that because those colors are very bright, it can be fun or a headache...but it doesn't have to be the latter...I would use the flag colors on a limited basis and play up the "theme and details" more....However, to start, I like the black tablecloths because they provide a bold background that would complement or contrast with white green or gold beautifully....

With the cake, I would do white or creme color in your favorite flavors, and set nice lemons and limes around the base on a black tabecloth...You may even go ahead and let some centerpieces (if you decide against the frames) be tall clear cylinders filled in either a mixture or in even rows of lemons and limes for a tropical feel....You can also set lemons and limes around the base of a pretty plant or flower arrangement from jamaica or the Carribean....

The sky is the limit....happy planning....

This may be nice on a black tablecloth with whole lemons and limes

Hi Troop,

Welcome to the forum! I've seen some brides doing red dresses these days or I suppose you can have one made that blends the ice, gold, and green. Or you can still do the traditional white dress and let your bridesmaids wear the red, yellow, and green.

Here's an article on the red wedding gown.

Welcome Troop74,

Are you trying to do a white dress with those colors in it or do you not want a white dress at all.

Welcome to the sisterhood Troop. How about a champagne God wedding dress and your bridesmaids could wear red gowns and your table centerpieces could be yellow roses and could use white vases for the roses with very thin lime green ribbons cascading down. That way you cover all your Jamaican colors: Red in your bridesmaids' gowns, Gold in your wedding gown, yellow in your roses, white in the vases and the thin lime green ribbons for your Green.

It would look absolutely perfect. Happy planning

Re: Jamaican Colors Theme

Great advice Ginoue.I was going to suggest the gold wedding dress. The gold is more yellow than a metallic gold so it may not translate if she wears a gold gown. I would keep it simple. Pick ONE main color and accent with actual Jamaican things. You can get a cool look just by using those colors in your flowers, favors at the reception. I would definitely use a soft white, Ivory or gold as a base color and accent with the rest.

unique wedding gowns

How about an Ombre gown in the Jamaican flag colors. Not too pronounced, just from the lower gown down?

How about a Jamaican flag dress. Done in bridal fabric or chiffon?

I am really feeling this one. Still looks like a wedding gown and it's definately unusual. Very handmade and couture looking.
