Reception after Elopement Help!

Omgoodness, I WISH I found this site sooner! Ok now here is my situation, and I would really appreciate if anyone could give me any ideas!!

My fiance and I are getting married on Saturday and we wanted to have a private ceremony in Eureka Springs, however our families know about it and have accepted that we want to do it that way.

My family and friends live in New York. His family lives abroad. I'm living in Middle America with him right now and here is where all of his friends are and they are disappointed that we aren't having a "traditional" wedding and he said they'd be more disappointed if we don't have some type of reception afterwards. Now I don't want to have anything big, neither does he, because of expenses. Another issue is that I don't feel all that comfortable around many of his friends, but casual brief conversation. They have been very sweet and helpful with a lot for us, but I don't have the same rapport that I do with my NY homies! At a normal reception the bride and grooms family and friends are all together in one setting, so the Bride has her peeps and the Groom has his, so that there is no one side feeling alone or "weird" but here is my unique situation, where we live in a place where only his friends are. When we go to NY we will have something intimate with my parents and a few aunts and uncles, and couple of my friends that he knows and feels very comfortable around. When we go to his country in 1-2 years we will have a celebration there as well. The problem at the moment is just here in Middle America... What should we do to keep the peace??

Sorry for the long post, but I'm stressed out and any advice would be greatly appreciated :))

Welcome Xotik (love the name).
Are your/his family and friend willing to travel? If so pick a neutral area and have a reception there.

Welcome to the boards Xotik! I agree with Niquey. There really is no way around the travel issue. Find an acceptable place that you and your fiance agree on and have your reception there. You'd be surprised people that love and support you will not mind traveling. In any event I wish you all the best.

Welcome Xotic, I too like the name! I also agree with Niquey on this one. Make sure that you get your FH input on this matter too. Best wishes and Congrats.

Re: Reception after Elopement Help!

Oh wow, you guys are wonderful! I didn't think I'd receive a response until mid-late afternoon atleast! Thanks for the support and great idea! My father does not like to fly, but he will most definitely drive and I think I will select a location and have everyone travel there... neither New York or where I am now. Somewhere middle of the road... I think that would be nice and fair! What a load off :))

Thank you again for your support and thanks for the compliment on my avatar :)

Edit: Thanks for the compliment on username...not avatar...lol!

Re: Reception after Elopement Help!

Are you going to wait until later in the year to have a reception? That'll give you more time to plan, and register somewhere.

Re: Reception after Elopement Help!

I am on the phone with my mother now and she said that she thinks that's best as well. She told me first things first though... to forget about the stress of a reception and get married first. I'm just a certified worry wart is my problem! :/
