Reception food ideas

Ladies, I don't want to use a caterer for my reception. Can you all give me some ideas on what foods to serve? So far, I know that I want to serve inexpensive but tasty foods.Any ideas? The only thing I have come up with is chicken wings (different flavors, of course),deviled eggs, and a few desserts.

Hi Platinumstyle,

You can also add a variety of salads, they usually go over very well. Good luck.

Re: Reception food ideas

Cooking yourself can be stressful so choose foods that can be made quickly or can be frozen and thawed on the big day. And PLEASE get someone to help. Call all aunts and grandparents and cousins who can really burn. Offer a prize for the best loved item. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Pasta primavera in marinara sauce
  • garden lasagna
  • marinated vegetables
  • miniquiches
  • Stuffed peppers
  • Hummus

These seem fancy, but are easy to prepare and are easy favorites. Consider a carving station with Roasted Turkey, A ham and or a Roast.

Re: Reception food ideas

I love Rosetta's idea especially the lasagne. Here are some of the foods that I've seen at receptions some of which you can purchase frozen then add your own fixings to it.
Chicken wings, bbq and spicy (delicious)
Meatballs (can be purchased frozen)
Pasta salads (chicken, tuna, vegetarian)
Tossed salad/garden salad
Dinner Rolls
Potatoes Salad/Cole Slaw
Corn of the cob
These are easy to prepare and you can incorporate some of the dishes the other ladies suggested then you will be set for your reception. Have Fun!

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

What can you buy and then fix up when you get home? For example, can you buy potato salad and then add your flavoring to make it more "ethnic" at home? I'm sure you could also do this with other items. I'm sure it will work out fine.

What about taking it back to the good ole days of finger sandwiches and pigs in the blanket. LOL. I say keep it simple. Wings, some salads, meatballs and various fruit.

Rosetta, I checked out that Cooking.com website and I must say that that is a very valuable resource. They have absolutely everything on that website. and like you said the best part is that it's free. Good Call!
