Hi think simple. You will hate yourself if you have to do all that cooking and your hair falls on your wedding day. Try to make things that can be made a day or two before. I suggest Cooking.com strongly because they not only have recipies, they have menus too! For just about any style or occassion. While you are there you should set up a registry too. Obviously you like being in the kitchen. lol
Check the cost of a caterer over the cost of the ingresients and supplies. They are usually LESS than if a novice tried to do it themselves. Good luck I am praying for you!

Hey platinum I'm a half do it your self cook.I will be having traditional Thanksgiving food at my wedding.I will be ordering a turkey and a ham from the honey baked ham store but I will prepare all the side dishes myself. Girl please dont try to do it all by yourself.I will be getting the help of my FH sisters when I cook.Find you a couple of people who love to cook and Im sure they will be more than happy to help you prepare.Like Big Mama who knows how to throw down on some greens and mac and cheese!Or Uncle Robert who can hook up a mean bar-b-que rib dinner.Girl get them for what they good for.The key is to find the ones who always bragging about how good they cook. That way you can put them to the test and get what you need all at the same time. When Im outside looking all cute I will have them sistahs in the kitchen heating up food I cooked the night before. As for a menu how about preparing you and FH's favorite meal.
My menu will be Turkey, Honey baked Ham,Dressing/Stuffing, Mac and Cheese,Greens (collard and mustard),Yams,cornbread/dinner rolls, fried chicken, and since FH loves them Sweet potatoe pie will be his grooms "cake".And of course a huge wedding cake!
Thanks, Ladies.I don't plan to do it all by myself.I know a few people that are willing to help but I just wanted a few ideas on as far as menu is concerned.I was trying to stay away from soul food because that's pretty much all I eat when I'm not on the road.I just wanted a change of pace. However, I'll consider it anyway because it's not expensive and I will have plenty of help preparing it. Rosey, I will check out cooking.com.Thanks for the tip because I love to cook! Lol.Keep those suggestions coming Ladies!

You could also grill chicken breasts, and have different types of pasta (angel hair, bowtie, penne etc.,) and have 2-3 different sauces. That way guests can mix their own creation. It will fill them up. Plus, pasta is inexpensive and easy to cook. It's just a matter of keeping it warm.
Only 38 more days!!

Marriage is one of the most greatest things to do in your life other than having a family and a successful career. God Bless you, and best of luck planning your wedding, and may it be a great day.
We're having grilled chicken breast (or turkey as the option), seasoned yellow rice, veggies, & pasta salad. Gotta keep it simple (folks are so picky these days)
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

We call pig feet souse in the lower caribbean. It is slow cooked with parsley, garlic. Very minimal spices and served with potato salad. I used to have it EVERY saturday when I was on St. Thomas. I think it made me 60% fat. [LOL] So I am with your dad on this one, Happily! lol
I think Alivinslove is having Thanksgiving dinner at her reception. YUMMMY!!! Me so hungry.

Charly where are you located because you don't know about any of the soul food dishes dear? Do you know what Chitterlings, pronounced (chitlins) are? Are you from the island? I thought I saw you writing some Potua Spelling?
I'm thinking about the grilled or baked chicken breast.I've seen the frozen packs at Wal-mart and Sam's Club.I'll also check the meat markets to see if I can get a deal for buying a large amount.I'm also considering a ham.Soul Food is still on my list, too.Beetle, pasta is a great idea.I saw banquet pans with the racks and warmers in Garden Ridge last night for $29.99.Thank you for all of your ideas and if you have more, keep them coming!

I am from the Bahamas - not potua, that is Jamaican - my native language is English but we broke it up so bad we call it Bahamianees (its not official just really messed up) in my daily life I dear not speak that way but sometimes people really bring out the negro in you.
What in the world is chitterlings - I don't think I like how that sounds, I'm afraid to find out what it actually is...but tell me anyway.

Yes Rosey I know what is pigfeet souse...it is a dish most bahamians eat on Saturday mornings - they go to a souse house and order it - it is served with johnny cake (which is a bread but not a loaf, more of a cake consistency). It is prepared by boiling with whole spice, onions, salt, and potatoes...at the end it is seasoned with lemon juice.
Listen here ya'll this is one of the biggest morning breakfast in the Bahamas along with boil fish, sheep tongue souse, chicken souse, mutton souse. Especially on holidays.
I always like to ask how you prepare your native dishes because we are a melting pot on this site with our own unique lifestyles.

Charley, chitterlings (chitlins-like we native Georgians say) is pig intestines. You buy a 5 or 10 pound bucket, wash them thoroughly in the sink and pull the membrane off of the intestine. Most people cook them in a large pot on low heat, seasoned with onions and spices.Usually served with rice, collard greens, and corn bread.I'm not a big fan of 'chitlins', though.

I think you have to have a very strong stomach to eat chitlins,if you can handle it more power to you...i just dont wanna be around when you do. Growing up I would never eat the food that stinks or looks bad.I think its all in my head or something but I cant force myself to eat something that dont look or smell right.Even if I fixed it before and I know how it taste if the look and smell is not appealing it aint going nowhere near my mouth.

Sorry ladies, but I just can't imagine eating turtle. International cuisine is really interesting. I remember an African friend of mine made some peanut butter chicken, (now mind you she had to twist my arm to get me to taste it), but girl once I did it was on! That is one of the most tastiest dishes I have ever tasted. Go figure.

To hell with the international cuisines---I don't eat some of my own hertiage dishes, if I think it's gross I am not eating it. Nah Rony I do not like peanutbutter but I can see me eating that because I eat chicken all the time....and I hope you mean chicken as in KFC and not spring chicken as in Frog...that is another story ewww
