Hello ladies,
I am planning a July wedding in Georgia and am preparing to marry my soul mate. But I am in somewhat of a limbo when it comes to the Reception. I plan to have a DJ there playing nice songs. But wanted to have bring out the not so slow songs later in the night. Now here comes the dilemma. My father in law to be is a pastor and I don't want to disrespect him or my Mother in law to be by having this sort of music at the reception. I thought about listing on the reception folder that party to follow reception. Is this crazy? I know a lot of our family and friends will be in attendance and I just want everyone to feel comfortable to enjoy themselves. We have decided that if we have the "party" following the reception that we will serve minimal alcohol in the large banquet room that is located down the hall from the area where we will host the actual reception. Ladies help me out please!!!!!

Dance music should not offend your pastor if you keep it top 40 clean until after 10pm. By then the church folks would have gone home.[lol]There really is no need to maske seperate receptions or even make note of it. I had a bishop and three priests perfome my ceremony and they were at my reception. I started with old school jazz and the band went into old school r&b then we switched to a dj who played club and house music. Don't worry so much.

I had that same problem because the pastor that is doing our wedding is related to me and alot of people from the church will be there. At my cousin's wedding he did they played the not so slow music later in the evening and the pastor had left by then. So hopefully you'll get the same result, if not just tell them exactly what you said you want everybody to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves so you'll be playing a little of everything i'm sure he'll understand and not take it as being disrespectful, what is your soul mate's feelings about it? That's what we are doing because we have a younger, older, and religous crowd. As far as the alcohol we have a cash bar to solve that problem. Good luck with your decision diva:)
Divadown76, welcome to the boards. I was having so much stress about this, that I decided to do what makes my FH and I happy. This is your wedding day and while you don't want to offend anyone, you can't please everyone either. The church I belong to is very strict and doesn't believe in playing "wordly" music. (My FH and I are having a private intimate ceremony and reception). Rosetta and Vertuous gave very good suggestions. Don't worry and enjoy your wedding day. Do what makes you and your soul mate happy!

I am a christian and for the longest time I was battling this same question...Before I was saved I loved loved loved absolutley loved R&B....nice smooth, clean R&B...I thought it was wrong to listen to it after becoming a christian so for three years I ignored it. On Sundays the radio stations play this type of music and let me tell you...I can not even stand to listen to them because oh my goodness they bring a tear to your eye and it makes you want to get married at the very point. After discussing this with other christians in my church I realized that it is ok to listen--so now I am slowwwwly listening. I say this to say that it's ok to play the type of music you wish---its how people respond to it---you will not catch me bumping and grinding on the floor to some "not nice" song but I can not stop you from playing it. It's ok to play it, a christian knows what not to do and how to act according to God's word....relax, they know this is a joyous occasion worthy of celebrating.
