rehearsal dinner

is it appropriate to send invitations to the rehearsal dinner? everyone who is attending the is invited to the rehearsal dinner but I didn't know if I needed to outline the place/time etc. Also, how are you guys notifying the participants of the rehearsal time-by word or mouth or more formal in writing?

Re: rehearsal dinner

Originally, I planned on sending out formal invitations (with a poem that one of our sistas had) but the last 2 weeks of planning were crazy for us. So, we just basically did it word of mouth.

I've really didn't put much thought into just how I was going to inform them. I knew when, where, and the menu. Go figure I forgot about the "people". Help, I'm caught up.

Even though the same people who are at the rehearsals would basically be the ones at the rehearsal dinner, etiquette dictates that you should send out formal invitations 2-4 weeks prior to the event. So msj, you have plenty of time to get those invites out.

Okay, I'm starting to get confused. Isn't about the same timeline as the wedding invitations? If so, do I just enclose the rehearsal notification and rehearsal dinner invite?

Re: rehearsal dinner

Well the invitations are usually sent out 6-8 weeks before your wedding date, but as far as sending the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner invites along with your invitations, I'm not quite sure about that one, so I'll let someone else take that one on. Personally, we are having our bridal party, plus our immediate aunts and uncles attend our rehearsal dinner, because this will be the first meeting between our families! We will be sending out invitations listing the time, place, etc. My FMIL is paying for the rehearsal dinner, so I will give her the responsibility of sending out the invitations, but we will send separate invitations, probably about 3 weeks or so before the date. I will not send mine out with my wedding invitations, this is just a personal decision. I also sent my bridal party some information with my save the date cards, just providing them with details of the wedding weekend, including the time and place of the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner. Our aunts and uncles don't know at this point that they will be invited, so we will begin by spreading the word, but eventually, they will receive their invitations!

I thought that the wedding invites were sent out 4-8 weeks before the date. I'm confused and (even though I have 11 months to go) stressed. I am truly a stickler for timelines and planning.

Re: rehearsal dinner

You want to send out your wedding inivitations a minimum of 6 weeks ahead of time. This is because you usually need your final head count 2 weeks before the wedding and that gives your guests 4 weeks to RSVP. Plus you want to have enough time to do your seating chart.

As far as rehearsal dinner invitations, you can send them out 2 weeks prior. I wouldn't include them with the wedding invite.
