Ring Troubles

I am new to the page. But I need to vent. My fiance doesn't have any jewelry and never specified what type of band he wanted. So, I went out a purchased a 1.5 carat channel setting 14k white gold band. I showed it to him and he didn't like it. To make matters worse, the store I bought it from doesn't take returns and my fiance didn't se anything he liked at the store to ezchange his ring for. What am I going to do???

Hi carebear and welcome. I am sorry about your troubles....I don't know how long you have until the wedding but jewelry stores get new rings in all the time....maybe if you keep checking back with the store on their new rings he may find one he wants.....I know the feeling of having a picky man. I decided to visit the store he bought my set from, and looked for their male wedding rings...the next day or so I dragged him in there so he can pick his own ring out and he did and I purchased it....from now on, don't go to the store without him!

Most reputable jewelers do offer the 30-day exchange or credit if in saleable condition, and very reputable stores like tiffany and co. will give you a full refund on demand if its been paid in full.....so I bet that if you give them a hard time about returning the ring for a full refund they will give it to you (if your ring is paid in full....If he absolutely cannot find a ring, don't let them hold your money in a store credit, insist to them that you absolutely cannot find something he likes and want your money back....Talk to the manager or whoever, but never say never.....

Welcome to the boards CareBear. The ladies have already given you some wonderful advice. I would like to reiterate something that was said earlier. Stores receive new rings in all the time, keep checking and don't go to the store without him. When are you getting married?

Re: Ring Troubles

Welcome to the boards, Carebear! I'm sorry for your stress over the ring. Take it from the wife of a picky man, always take him to pick things out or show him some rings and aloow him to tell you what he likes before you purchase. That's exactly what I had to do. He was still kind of shaky so I took him to several jewelry stores and he finally found one that he liked. Just like we are picky they are too. However, I think that regardless of the ring that they choose for us that we are more apt to accept it because it's the thought that counts but they are not that way. The ladies gave you great advice and I hope that you will be able to resolve this issue. BTW, when is your wedding day?

Re: Ring Troubles

welcome aboard carebear! Has it been explained to this picky man that the ring is nonrefundable. If you are not going to keep it I would suggest trying ebay. Make sure you set a reserve and take plenty of pictures of the ring. Make a funny story to go along with the ring (worked for the man w/ the wedding dress from his ex-wife - he embellished a bit), creative writing really wins out on ebay and see how things turn out for you. Here is a link to the story about the man who posted his ex-wifes wedding dress online: Man Who Sold Ex-wifes dress on ebay

Re: Ring Troubles

Thanks everyone for such great advise. My wedding is Aug. 26. My fiance is really into diamonds and specified now that he does not want a plain band nor does he want a diamond band that is bulky or shows a lot of plain band. And I thought my ring was supossed to be the one to "bling bling". I know for a fact that the store will exchange but they specified that they do not take refunds. I purchased the ring in downtown los angeles at the LA Jewelry Mart. Hopefully they will get some new rings.

Poor Carebear... I think we have about 3 or 4 other 8/26 brides on the board. Your man is picky. I think - could be wrong cuz thinking aint my forte' - but i THINK that the Jewlry Mart now owns the Jewelry Exchange in Tustin. You can definitely call and ask and find out if you can check out that store as well.
