traditional wedding

I am getting married for the third time in Januray. My fiance want a traditional wedding and he wants me to have an elegant updo, to wear a veil with blusher. I am 52 and it is my 3rd wedding. I am still thinking if I should do that or just to keep things simple?

You do what you feel yourself. If you want to do that traditional thing, then go for it! If you don't that is good too. Its up to you, its your day and you do what makes YOU HAPPY!

First of all welcome Rose_bronx!

Ditto ieasha. 3rd wedding or not, all eyes will stil be on you. You want to be comfortable and happy. If you want to have a traditional wedding then do. The important thing is creating happy and loving memories together.

Girl three is a charm.LOL which means it is time to break all the rules. What I dont understand is who is the rule setter? I always here people say oh you can't wear that color this season, your cant wear white, you can't do this and you can't do that. I am planing my wedding the way I want to have it and I dont care who agree or disagree, and I suggest you do the same. Do what you feel and dont worry about what others have to say. People will always find something to day.

I think I said it in a previous post. A tradition starts when somebody decides to do something a certain way. YOU can be that somebody and YOU can decide to do it the way YOU want. In the end you want to have a wedding that makes both of you happy, but don't sacrifice your vision for your wedding day just because you are worried about what others think. As House said some one will find something to say.

Re: traditional wedding

Welcome Rose_bronx. If you have tried on this thing, and you hate it, then don't wear it. And let him know. If you tried it on, and it looks good. Go for it! Make him think you're not wearing it, then make his knees shake when he see's you in it. If you don't like it, go simple, with a nice, simple updo sweeping to the side (or a side bun) and add a small flower to hint at elegance. Keep working different looks, but move fast because you have little time. I think that it doesn't matter HOW may times you've been married, a veil, blusher, and updo is ALWAYS appropriate-and can still be simple!

Congrats Rose.
My big day will be also in January and I am having a traditional middleeastern wedding. I will be wearing a western style veil but under the traditional head cover just like what I did during my previous wedding.
I am glad to find this forum for brides over 35.

I am 20 days from my wedding. I bought the veil, the gloves, and the shoes. The feeling is great.
I am still looking for an elegant hair style. I love high updos especially that my fiance is 10 inches taller than me.

Re: traditional wedding

Well I bought some garland from walmart (very nice too) for like 3.00-5.00 for 6 feet. This will go on the arch. I also bought Toasting glases, program paper, serving knife set, MY bm'jewelry and my tiara. Saturday we went to David's Bridal to get the alterations started. I went Monday to get my alterations started also. My brother-graphic designer helped format the invitation wording and design so we can print them up next week. WHILE I'm home I'll be working on the address labels. I would do calligraphy but its too much work. I also bought a scrapbook with black pages and a silver metallic pen to serve as out guestbook. I will decorate random pages with pics do dress it up a little......i did a million other things too but I am tired and will divulge more details later.

It may. Don't forget to consider AFTER the wedding, especially if your honeymoon is right after, AND if you plan to swim at the honey moon. After I thought about that I am finding that I definitely want easy and simple...It must look good for pictures, but I want flexibility and not a fight with the hair when we go swimming.....

I have to decide between two hairstyles. Long and curly or updo. I will go for my hair trials and see which one I like with my dress.

I am just 10 days from my wedding and things are getting crazy. Yeasterday we invited my fiance for dinner, but at the time he arrived I was still wearing my giant rollers. The girls just bushed me inside to say hi to him and started small celebration around us. Everybody love to have fun and enjoy the wedding atmosphere!

I never planned for any mock wedding but it seems that other girls wanted that. They just made us sit on the sofa and they started singing and dancing as if it is a real wedding. They even dropped a white chiffon scarf over my head to veil my face and make me look like a bride. There was so much excitment in the house.

It was mainly my sisters, his sisters and thier kids and my daughters.
My son came later (was not very excited initially)
Me and my fiance just sat and enjoyed the show. I liked seeing the world through the chiffon scarf although I was anxious about my look in rollers but it seems it did not bother him.
the party lasted for around 60 minutes and ended by the girls waking me again to the room to fix my hair.

Re: traditional wedding

Hi,it is 7.30 AM our local time and today is my wedding day. last night I had my Henna party. I got henna tatoos all over my hand and feet then they painted my hair with henna and wrapped it with scarf to sleep in. these are very old wedding traditions.
It will be a very busy day for me. It will start with breakfast with the family then face threading session at home then we will all go to a turkish hammam (bath) that I will spend hours in, that is why I am planning to let them set my hair with rollers there before I go to the salon to save time. My party starts at 8.00 pm.
wish me good luck.

thank you girls.
Responding to Ajimarie,
My favorite moment was when the groom arrived to my house. I was setting on my chair surrounded by women then then somebody shouted that the groom has arrived. Women started to sing songs and dance and the blusher was flipped down over my face. It was great feeling. My other exiting moment was the street wedding procession party from my house to our new house which was just few houses away. It was a big celebration. I was covered in white from head to toe according to the tradition here. I felt so happy (and shy of course).
