Traditions -- Alternatives

Are you ladies doing any thing other than the regular "jumping the broom" or Unity candle and sand thing?

Here are some things we are doing that are out of the norm.

No garter or bouquet toss instead we are going to give the couple that has been married the longest the bouquet and garter, they will dance to "All about our love" by Sade ( see lyrics for song words)

Hand tying, done in Africa to symbolize the connectivity of the two.

Cutting the cord (for our parents) - Symbolizes the start of a new family and the couples willingness to work to have a successful family.

Those are just a few for us.

My FH and I are planning a destination wedding. Then, later we will plan a renewal ceremony that both of our families can enjoy. It looks like it will be much cheaper for us and less headache. But,I like the hand-tying idea. I'll talk to FH about this.

Born Blessed!

We did unity candle and the bouquet/garter toss.

If you do the toss, make sure the emcee signifies it for 18+ only! We wanted them to put them on each other but since she forgot to say it, my bad cousins ended up snatching it over all the adults, AND they were brother and sister so that went up in smoke!

One thing I saw on TV was the bride and groom thank each other's parents during the ceremony and give them flowers (they each wrote a vow to their new in-laws) for allowing them to take their son/daughter in matrimony. I saw a black couple do this and it was very emotional and nice.

We've been Happily Married 2 Years and Counting:)
