I was interested in having the knot ceremony included in our wedding. Has anyone seen one. I am talking about the ceremony where the birde and groom's hands are bound by someone close to them. I would love to incorporate it in our special day.

This tyoe of ceremony is called handfasting. It is primarily a Pagan ritual used in Celtic weddings, Wiccan Weddings and neopagan weddings. handfasting is a temporary marriage that lasts a year and a day. You have the option to find a new mate after that. lol So you can have the ceremony at your engagement party. I would avoid doing it at our wedding ceremony.

It was a ceremony in which the couple publicly declared their intention to marry one year and a day in the future. In 1820, Sir Walter Scott used the term to refer to a fictional sacred ritual that bound the couple in a form of temporary marriage for a year and a day. He wrote of it in his book "The Monastery:"
"When we are handfasted, as we term it, we are man and wife for a year and a day; that space gone by, each may choose another mate, or, at their pleasure, may call the priest to marry them for life; and this we call handfasting." 1,2

I was talking about this type of tradition. I found this on another wedding website. Like on the movie. "Not Easily Broken"5. Tying the Knot
In some African tribes, the bride and groom have their wrists tied together with cloth or braided grass to represent their marriage. To symbolize your own unity, have your officiant or a close friend tie your wrists together with a piece of kente cloth or a strand of cowrie shells (symbols of fertility and prosperity), while affirming your commitment.

There is also reference to handfasting in Latin weddings. Lazos are a cool and beautiful representation of this custom. Many Christian events have Pagan roots: the throwing of rice, bonding rings, and even the altar. handfasting is what it is and is a beautiful way of expressing love and commitment.
