Unity Candle

Hello ladies!!

We are working on our wedding programs. We would like to light a unity candle, when should we have our mothers light their candle? I am having my mother walk me down the aisle, so it can not happen before the processional. Or, do you think we should have our grandmothers light the family candles? I know that we light ours right after the exchange of vows.

Thanks!!!

Re: Unity Candle

I am not going to let the mother of the groom or bride light the unity candle at the begining of the wedding either. I am going to let the pastor say a prayer, have a scripture read, let the pastor continue with the weddng vows, the my soloist will start a song off, ushers will then escort my mother and my fmil to light there candle, then my fh and I will go and light the candle.

Re: Unity Candle

I've seen people have the grandmothers light the candle before the wedding started. Then the bride and groom light theirs after the vows.

Tiff, it's your day you can do it your way! You don't have to follow tradition. I think grandmother's lighting the candles are a great gesture as well as your mother once she walks you down the aisle. How many candles will you have?

Re: Unity Candle

We were gonna have one candle representing each family and then a candle in the center for the two of us.

I will be letting my mom and his sister light the candle before the wedding starts and he and I will be lighting it after our vows.
