Hey ladies,
I want to wear my veil over my face because that is how I always pictured myself. My coordinator said in her church, (which was catholic), she was not allowed.
I asked my pastor if it's ok, and he said yes.
Here's my questions:
1. Is that outdated? The last few weddings I have been to the bride didn't wear her veil over her face.
2. Does anyone know the real meaning of wearing your veil over your face? (does it have anything to do with virginity, purity, etc...)
3. I know the whole "white dress means virgin" thing is outdated, but do you think people will raise their eyebrows if I wear my veil over my face (if it means virginity) because I am no where near a virgin!
Please give me your honest opinions.

Really? I never heard that catholics couldn't wear a veil over their face. Was she a divorcee? I loved my blusher veil. I think it is so sweet when your hubby has to lift it when you are finally his wife!

I don't know if it's all catholic churches or just hers. She got married over 20 years ago, and she couldn't do it then, then she renewed her vows around 5 years ago, and still couldn't do it. I don't know if it was the same church or not.

I was catholic when I got married and never once did they tell me a veil could not be worn...there has to be a reason behind that - But here is a little somehting on the veil:
Significance of the bride's veil
It's commonly believed that it is 'bad luck' for groom to see his bride in her dress before the ceremony, and therefore a veil was used to conceal her. In fact, in the old days of arranged marriages, the groom rarely saw his bride at all before the wedding day. If she was really ugly, a veil might have prevented him from running away. But everyone knows there's no such thing as an ugly bride. A bride is always somewhere between 'very pretty' and 'absolutely gorgeous'. Veiling the bride is a symbolic way of tantalizing the groom by concealing her beauty until he becomes her husband and is permitted to see her.

Thanks for posting that because I really needed to know since I heard so many different things.
My coordinator said she was allowed to wear the veil, just not in her face (I don't know what the correct term for that is). She was trying to tell me it meant virginity, but I was confused because I thought thats what the white dress meant.
Anyway, thanks for posting ladies, and I will be wearing my veil over my face.

Good for you B2B!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
An occasion on which a woman is likely to wear a veil is on her wedding day, if she follows the traditions of a white wedding. Brides used to wear their hair flowing down their back at their wedding to symbolise their virginity, now the is often said to represent this.
White bridal veils symbolize the bride

This is only my option, so I
I'm wearing a blusher also but it will be lifted by my father after the pastor asks who gives this woman etc. My father will answer, lift it and give me a kiss. I don't want the blusher over my face the whole time.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good
I really cant stand stuff in my face so I dont know what I wanna do with my veil. But I always pictured my FH lifting it when we have our first kiss as husband and wife. Lately I've been seeing the veil lifted by the father and staying back and even the bride walking with it back....
Ultimately I think it is a matter of personal choice. I will be wearing a veil over my face. I love that age-old tradition.

That is really great to stick with tradition. FH and I are going for more Formal than tradition.
My FH and I call our wedding "Partritional."
Part Tradition and Part Not.

Love it!!!!!

In spite of what "history/society" teaches us or dictates on the "do's and "do not's" as it relates to weddings...I feel the final decision is solely up to the bride, what she wants and what she does not want...this is the 21st century and no one dare challenge her opinion or her constitutional rights to her view.

And if we someone is brave enough to take that challenge we would just have to turn bridezilla on the butts. As if it would really matter that they had an opinion in the first place.
You all are absolutely right!
