Hello ladies, I would love to know how soon before your wedding are you planning on purchasing your dress? Or if you have already, how long before your wedding did you purchase it?
Hello ladies, I would love to know how soon before your wedding are you planning on purchasing your dress? Or if you have already, how long before your wedding did you purchase it?
I purchased mine back in May from www.bridalonlinestore.com. My wedding date was 7-7-07 but we had to cancel. If you choose to order your dress online, check for shipping information and a return policy. If you order a custom gown, understand that it may take several months before you receive it.
I got mine at the end of september. I overnighted the dress-though it took a little longer to arrive...but I still ordered it about 5-6 months before the wedding. Since it was March 3rd I had to have it ready by the end of February...And I did 4 fittings and alterations which the final fitting was Jan 31st. She kept the dress for me and had it steamed at no extra charge....When I tried it on a month later to pick up a week before the wedding it still fit perfectly. However if needed be, she would have had time to do a quick alteration! Oh yeah, alterations were about 300.00 total...Cause of course its a wedding dress, and mine had lots of material so it was a lot.
I tried on like 15-20 dresses from May to August before I settled on one.
I purchased my gown in September. (Maggie Sottero)
The store notified me that the delivery date would be around the end of December early Jan.
Im glad I ordered it when I did as my wedding is the first weekend in April

i ordered my gown in August (Alfred Angelo) and it came back in 2 wks (even thought they said 12 wks) but my veil and sash has not came back yet-so I ordered mine 6 months in advance-wedding is 3/15/08
My wedding is in May. I ordered my gown in August with a delivery date of November 29. The gown arrived in 2 weeks but was too small. Turns out it was cut incorrectly. I sent it back and received a new date of December 14 but the gown came last week! It fits great this time!
Order early enough to allow time to correct any (God forbid) errors like I had plus time for alterations!

Please include alteration fees in your budget....Like I said above mine were up there, but I hear thats standard for wedding gowns!
For my April 07 wedding, I ordered my dress August 06 and was told it wouldn't arrive until end of November. The dress actually came back in October and needed quite a few alterations which cost me about $300 as well. When deciding when to order your dress, keep in mind prom season. Once Prom season hits, bridal shops get extremely busy and alterations tend to get backed up so you want to order early enough to avoid this.

Alterations!! :) just don't buy it too small anticipating the smaller size and not meet the goal-it is alot eaiser to take away material than add. I also have received my dress, but I am not going to get it altered until about 1 month before.
The shop where I got my dress advised it's okay to lose weight once your dress comes in as long as it's not more than 20 lbs. Anything more than that may ruin look of dress.

Luckily I only need 1-inch taken in at the bust and a bustle! With all the detail on the bodice that could've gotten up there!
