It is purely it to the couple. Based on what I read couples opt for wedding insurance so that they don't lose everything in the event something happens -- for example if a couple spends $25,000 on a wedding and then they break up before the marry, they will be protected. I don't think it is necessary, but some people get it just for added protection.
