If it were me, I would rip the contract and start looking for another place, & like last week. Is it anywhere in the first contract that says you can't get your deposit back? If it was me, I would fight for the deposit, but if I couldn't get it back, I still would not go with them.

Do you still have a copy ofthe old contract? Is there a clause in there that you can use to get out of this contract and get your money back?

I would just change wedding locations. It's not like you are getting married next week, or next month you still have plenty of time to find another venue. Will you be able to get your deposit back? I know that the venue that I am using you can not obtain your deposit back.

I think that you should get out as soon as possible. If they let the rooms get bedbugs, what will they do with the food? Strike one was the coordinator leaving, Strike two was them not contacting you and trying to point fingers. Strike three, bugs? I don't think that the price is that great. I'm glad that you found all of this information out early!

Just at Ajia said it is good thing you found all of this out now!!! Now get out of this contract ASAP. Even if they "clean up" their act would you and FI ever be comfortable knowing that they had bedbugs??? I know we wouldn't. Just my opinion though

100% agree with all the ladies...get out now. Try and get your original deposit back, but if you can't I still wouldn't stay with them. I mean I would rather lose a couple hundred dollars and go with someplace that is reputable and CLEAN, then continue on and have bugs crawling around at my "dream wedding".

Thanks ladies for your opinions. I am glad I found out about this early. We have a meeting this Friday to discuss terminating the contract. I looked at the contract and I didn

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

ElegantBride08 you can get out of the contract if you point out the breach in the areas of their promises.
1. New coordinator lack of professionalism
2. The fact that the hotel was in the news for an infestation
3. The fact that there have been changes to the original contract (the coordinator) without your approval

Use what you have. Let them know you and you guest are not comfortable staying at the facility after such negative exposure in the media. Tell them that it's like a dark cloud over you day. If that doesn't work, contact the corporate office and get them involved.

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

Ok ladies I have an update...after watching the news this whole issue dates back to 2004. Since then the hotel has been under watch by New York State and has passed whatever tests to operate. Also, the hotel is undergoing a total renovation, so by the time we have our wedding "everything will be totally different" -words of the coordinator. (I know that the renovations are underway because I have seen the new floor plan)

The hotel sent a letter stating that the group of individuals that file the claim back in '04 has signed another contract for this year. (This seemed a little fishy to me but they did put this in writing) And that many of the issues in the claim were very trivial and has since been changed.

I am still a little torn with the whole situations. My Mom thinks everything will be fine because it occurred a couple of years ago and that they are undergoing over a million dollars worth of renovations. FH is also convinced that this problem will not occur again at this hotel because of the negative publicity they already received with this case. He also has his theory that there are probably many other area hotels and venues in our area with same problems but their problems have not reached the public.

What do you ladies think? Would you take the hotel's word that this problem has been solved?

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

I probably wouldn't because I'm a little anal, and FH wouldn't go through it because he wouldn't want to keep hearing my mouth about it. But maybe things will be better at the time of yout wedding. You have over a year until your wedding so you have enough time to monitor progress and if you don't like it, you can go elsewhere. Good luck with all that.

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

Knowing me, I wouldn't stay with this venue. But, I'm very paranoid. If I see a bug in someone's hair, I have to go and wash mine because I feel creepy. So, as you can, I'm a little "different" lol

But, go with your gut! If you think everything is going to be okay - then stay. If you have any doubts, then change.

We can tell you what we would do, but it all boils down to how comfortable you as an individual would feel on your wedding date. Would you be all paranoid and looking around because you know the history? Or would you feel comfortable knowing that all of that was fixed during renovations? How do YOU feel about it?...

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

Good question soontobebride, I am pretty paranoid about the whole situation. Every time I think about it, I start to itch. When I first heard about the whole thing I started looking for other venues and everything seems to be booked on that date. And I can't really choose another date because most of my vendors are already booked (with deposits already paid). I am still considering finding another venue but I am not backing out of this contract until I secure another place.

I do agree with all the ladies as well! But TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE! Use it wisely and search high and low for another venue, and if all else fails...Stay on top of this venue...become a household name to them, so that they know not to screw you over with anything going forward. If you do find another venue then GREAT but if you don't...MAKE THEM SO NERVOUS THAT YOUR DREAM WEDDING BECOMES THEIR BUDGET BREAKER AND NOT YOURS-HAVE THEM JUMPING AROUND FOR YOU LIKE YOUR NAME WAS OPRAH! Good luck and keep us updated!

Re: Wedding of our dreams… with BEDBUGS!?!

Hello Ladies, So today I informed the venue that we would like to release our reception date. Now I just have to but the cancellation in writing. The deposit is completely lost but we are not obligated to pay the 25% fee associated with the canceling (Thank God!) due to all the problems we had with the venue.

Do you ladies think I should fight for the $500? I am definitely writing a letter about the lack of professionalism we experienced.

We are in the process of finding another place, but I can say I am feeling A LOT better about our decision. Thank you all for the advice and care :)

Personally I wouldn't fight for the $500. I would just take it as an unfortunate loss. Some things just aren't worthy stressing over. I would however do what you're going to do...make sure I tell SOMEBODY ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY that would listen how terribly un-professional they were.

Congrats on getting out of a situation that made you uncomfortable. Make sure you report them to the BBB - you may help another bride! I would put the wheels in motion to try and get the $500, all they can do is say no. Try for a reduced amount even - every little bit helps!

Good! the venue should be the last thing you should have to worry about.
Girl, if you have free time fight for your money. with proper harrassment you may be able to get it back. All of the trouble you went through with them...shoot

Boston, you are such a firecracker! I love your feisty spirit.

ElegantBride, I have to agree with the firecracker on this one, I'd at least attempt to get my money back. It's not your fault they had critters chewing all on their hotel guests. Ewwww. Seriously, I'm glad you got another venue, and I say you don't have anything to lose by trying to get back your money.

I agree with the other ladies, see if you can get your money back because all they can do is say no. If I were in this situation though, I would raise so much he#% to those people (of course using all my SAT words) that they would pay me just to get rid of me. But good for you that you can get out of it.
