Wait to the day of to buy last minute things, i.e. cake topper. If there is something you forgot that you absolutely must have make sure you set up a dependable person for this job ahead of time!
Oh, and pack your ceremony and reception boxes one week before. Designate a person to pick up things you want returned in each box, i.e. cake topper, unity candle, gifts, toasting flutes, etc.
Amen! At my brother's wedding, they waited to the last minute to decide who was going to take their presents to ATL while they honeymooned....
Oh yeah, and if you are doing a destination wedding, your coordinator either needs to be from the spot, been to the spot, or in constant contact with vendors who live in the spot (Location)....That way you will know whats going on before you get there and that there are no surprises....when I get the energy I will tell ya'll about how my brother's wedding started out on very shaky ground......But if you don't know who you are dealing with before you get there, it can be a mess.....

If you are getting married during prom season (April,May,June) don't wait to late to book your limos. This is also busiest time for dress shops so plan alterations accordinaly as well.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
Have everything done the week before. It is not impossible.
Programs assembled, boxes packed, unpaid vendor balances and tips in labeled envelopes for easy distribution. Start planning what to pack for your honeymoon, have your honeymoon bags packed by the rehersal day.
That way if any "emergencies pop up during the wedding week they can be handled, without it being added things on yor plate.
Introducng the new Mrs. Durrant!!!
Thats a good point! IT ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE!
I was so calm the week of my wedding I decided to work monday-wednesday cause I had nothing else to do, because everything was taken care of! It was nice to make that extra money too....

Don't allow bridemaids to use their own seamstress for alterations. Chose one seamstress and keep everything uniformed. Same thing with make up, stay as uniformed as possible.

AMEN!
And please be considerate of your BM's hair! Ifthey have hair too short to put in a ponytail, please don't make all of them wear that ponytail.....cause in the pictures, it is not cute when the BM with short hair has peices sticking out of the bun...I have seen this happen! Let her wear her short hairstyle...just as long as its done nice.....

All of my bridesmaids are wearing the exact same hairdos , one person is doing there hair so that they will all look alike.I hate seeing wedding pictures and you got that one person who let there cousin in the kitchen ruin her hair and then the bride has to look at those pictures for the rest of her life.An as far as a wedding planner i have one but i want to see how everything is going to look prior to my wedding day! I dont want no suprises!!!
"WHAT GOD HAS FOR ME,It is for me!
June 20,2009 Ill marry my soulmate!
At this particular wedding, she had one person do all their hair in a side bun, but one person's hair was too short for the ponytail, and all the gel in the world couldn't hold it down...in all the pictures her hair is sticking out like crazy at the bottom...what can you do?

Don't micro-manage everything. Can somebody say "bridezilla". Okay trust in your planner and trust in those around you. Learn to delegate and trust that it will be carried very well and with great care. And when someone is helping you out, remember to continuously praise their efforts. ~ Remember that a little does goe a long, long way!!!

1 billion AMENS over here!
PLEASE PLEASE get to know your coordinator...my coordinator was so anal, which was perfect cause I was not....she gave me the boost I needed, and I praise her to this day....I left it all in her hands, and she was gracious enough to be there for me at all the fittings, vendor meetings if I asked, and she also made great suggestions at each stage....she was also gracious enough to give me the final say, while still using her professional expertise to make decisions on the dime....she was able to do that because we had really known each other....and I understand its hard to find....she got on my nerves with her details, but in the end, thinking ahead about those seemingly asinine (sp?) details made all the difference in the execution of the whole wedding day! Please put in God's (and the coordinator's) hands!

Do not buy last minute things online. ESPECIALLY if it is important to your wedding day, like aisle runners, cake toppers,RINGS!!!! So many things can go wrong. There is nothing worse than not having something on that special day. Get a checklist and keep it with you everywhere. It will help with your time line and keep you in check.
Also don't keep buying favors. Get ONE kind of favor and make it a quality favor that your guests would actually want and not something cheap. If you can't afford to get 400 all at once get them 100 at a tine until you get what you need.
Get social and fan us on http://www.facebook.com/Vibrantbride] Facebook.
Dont keep second guessing your decision, you will drive yourself nuts and by the time you walk down the aisle you will have two of everything.
Wow, I enjoyed this link very much. So many great advices!!!

Girl Bumble, don't get me started or we'll be here until the cows come home (LMAO), but I said my piece in the micro-managing part earlier. That's all I will say. HAHAHAHA!!! I'm still laughing.

Unfortunantly, I'll have to do without a wedding planner. The good news is that I'll have well over a year to plan and finance my wedding, so wish me luck!

Welcome to the sisterhood butterbean. Your wedding will be as magical as you envision it to be. Throw your ideas here and we will definitely be your sounding board.
Happy planning
Congrats Butterbean and welcome. I am getting married August 16,2008 and I plan on doing everything myself. I'll probably get a coordinator to help me on the day of just to relieve all of the tension. I already have a huge wedding portfolio that I put together for my future wedding now its here and I can finally use it. My theme is Fall in the Summertime since we couldn't have the wedding in November.I am taking advice from everybody because don't want to mess anything up and I'm definitly not concerned with someone not liking my ideas...
P.S
Advice is only good because its free.

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies! I'm hoping to share some nice DIY ideas. Especially when it comes to making my own broom. I'll say more elsewhere. Gotta keep this topic going.
Make sure your fiance takes care of his duties. I let my fiance take care of getting the men together. Of course one guy didn't get his tuxedo and his dad didn't show up to the rehearsal dinner so the day of the wedding he didn't know what to do. When I look at the video tape I get pissed off.
I got a new one ya'll....
Please please please do an actual physical practice with your soloist, cause it is not cute when he is singing and forgets the words, and starts doing that humming thing you do when you don't know the words for a certain part, then starts BELTING OUT the words he DOES know....This is a mess, its a no-no. If he won't show you in practice, get another soloist...I don't care how well he sings!
AND....Please make sure your Pastor comes to rehearsal.....You are supposed to do the "I DO's/I WILL's" after your father gives you away, not while you and the person who is GIVING YOU AWAY is still locked in arms with you......It looked like she was marrying her fathers while the groom looked on?!?! Looking like the best man and not THE man!
Of course you can tell I went to a wedding this weekend!

Too funny Bumble, but on a serious note, awesome pieces of advice!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
OMG that is too funny!!!
But that is the truth. The Pastor didnt come to rehearsal.
I got one too.
dont have you BM's going to try on dresses a year before the wedding, to buy at that time and you dont have yours and didnt even pick the colors yet. Take care of your gown purchase first and then the girls...also because the new seasons may have something else that you like better and may save your girls some money.

I saw this on Bridezilla and as crazy as girlfriend was, she was right: She actually had her BM's "model" their gowns for her after they (well some) were altered....And oh thanks goodness she did! Some of the girl's dresses were too tight at the top.....I mean just chest every-where! One girl and her sister gained weight and they couldn't even get in them. And she had 2 weeks to go, and some of the ones who "out-grew" their dress just KNEW their dresses were ready to go!

I saw this episode too!! it was saaaadddd!! LOL
My friend is going thru that now for her cousin's wedding
Even though I LOVED my BM's I was right there with them when they picked the dresses and got their alterations...One of my BM's was.....ahem...hippy....and she did pick out a beautiful dress in the color I chose but I didn't think it was appropriate (even though it fit and accentuated her.....um...curves...and was VERY SEXY) for MY wedding...At my somewhat conservative church.....Plus, I didn't want all the focus to be on her...um....curves...so I nixed it....However, my very vocal wedding planner said something about it needing ALOT of alterations of it out loud and of course she got offended...I told her that I didn't the dress fitted the wedding theme and she bought it....But she was MAD at my wedding planner.....but whatever, I needed her to look the way I wanted her to look, and I am sure her DH would not have appreciated it either as conservative as he is....I think she was trying to be a little too sexy for my wedding....
So I rambled all that to say that you have to keep an eye on those Bridesmaids dresses and fittings....and you have to make sure the style fits the occasion and their personality....You don't want them cuttin' loose on ya!

Ladies, if you have large breasts, please find a dress that can support them properly. This is worst than the bride with the sequin top.
OMG, What the HE!! is that and look at her husband he can't even keep his eyes off them. TOOO funny.
LMAO!!! Butterbean, gurl, you're a hot mess!!!
Oh no what in the world that is so inappropriate. I wonder what the guests thought about it. I could she my church critics right now having a field day talking about her while she walking down the aisle.
