Hi Mrs. Jones..
At the weddings I've attended, most hostesses dress in the wedding colors as closely as possible...Its usually a suit, or skirt and blouse since they are walking and moving a lot. They also wear a flower on their lapel so they can be identified as part of the wedding party/helpers. In an ivory, gold, and coral wedding, the hostess all agreed to wear creme or ivory suits and the coral rose, one usher with low funds wore a simple gold skirt and ivory blouse and stockings....but these are also adults with their own funds to do this....They should defintely be in some kind of business casual with coordinating colors and something to identify them.....the halters and gauchos are definitely a no no.
Remind the young ladies of the formality of weddings and the understanding of their very important, yet busy role they will have.

Hey Mrsjones2be,
I am from Mobile as well. You can take your girls to ROSS's, TJ MAXX or Marshall's and find them a nice skirt/slacks and top for the low, low or you can take them to Rave's, 579 or even the limited and New York and Co and get them a pair of nice slacks and top if you would like. Even at Cato's you can find a really nice dress for them that is not that expensive. The last wedding I was in we took the hostess to Dillards and went to the prom clearance rack and found them nice short dresses in lilac and they all wore different dresses but the same color, but they were at the most I think one young lady paid $40. That was b/c she chose to and we made/ordered them wrist corsages to wear as a way to identify them. I hope this helps. Check out the mall . They have plenty of places and considering their ages they are willing to spend a day at the mall with you trying on any and evrything that is going to make them look the bomb..

Hey there MrsJones2be. My wedding colors are Navy blue, white & Platinum. I've asked my hostesses to wear Navy blue suits. Both of them already have navy blue suits so they don't have to go out and spend money.

Thanks Ladies for the advice. All the girls have decided to wear ivory or gold dresses from dillards or jcpenneys. A sigh of relief!!!!!

I'm happy too Future! One of my hostesses is someone that I went to High School with. I ran into after being out of touch for about 2 years. When I told her I was getting married, she asked how could she help. I tell you I am honored to have her as my hostess. She helped when my brother got married 17 years ago.

Yes they are the people at the door and they can help with reception as well. The last time I was a hostess we helped seat the guess at the reception and we were responsible for the lighting the floating candles before the guess arrived and so forth. We also helped w/the clean up at the church. Her colors were burgundy/ivory and silver. We wore black suits or dressses. Simple and you didn't have to go and buy thing. Cheapest I wedding I ever been in.LOL
Southerngirl.....
Thanks sheawiil....I guess I have to find me some hostess then....lol

Do you have someone who wanted to be in the wedding but couldn't afford to? If so they can be your hostesses. Your colors are red and white. They can wear a simple black suit/ dress. Then pin a corsage on them a simple red rose, this way you can tell them from your guess.BAM! you have your hostess, their attire and you can move on........
Southerngirl.....
THAS A VERY GOOD IDEA AND THAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE VERY HAPPY THEY WILL REALLY FEEL LIKE APART OF THINGS.
SEASONS IM WALKING INTO MY SEASON
I have a few cousins and nephews who would love to be in the wedding but I dont know where to put them. Thats a very good idea. Now I have another question, the ushers, are they the groomsmen or are they like the hostess? I keep reading the ushers walk the guest in.....and have them seated in proper places ect. How many ushers are needed for a group of say 100-150 guest?
Yes they are the same, as for the number I am not sure. Most weddings I have seen around 5 or six and only one or two ushers really (which usually are males) mattered b/c they sat or seated the MOB, GMOB and so forth. Escorted them to light unity candles. Ask MRS. Joann from something setapart. I think I said that right or even Ms. Rosey. Hey Ms. Rosey can you help with this one...........
Southerngirl.....
I only have two ushers. Their job is to escort the MOB and MOG to their seats. And to roll out the aisle runner. In my cousins wedding she had three, and they lighted the candles on the candleabra, and escorted the parents in. They were male and were dressed like groomsmen. in her case it worked out, because one of the groomsmen did not show and an usher stepped right in. No one knew but the wedding party. The bride didn't know till after the ceremony.

HOW IN THE HELL DID I MISS THIS POST?!?! *scrolling down* oh wait, I think I was too shocked that rhony's people were actually doing something right that I missed that. But HOW DID I FORGET THE HALTER TOPS AND GAUCHOS?!?!? I understand they are young, but they need to get it right. I cosign with Bee. I think maybe they should wear blouses the color of the most dominant color in the wedding and a nice suit of pants or skirts. OR A suit the color of the dominant wedding color w/ white blouses and the wedding flower. Just my late 2 cents. *** still laughing about the gauchos and halters*** pray for em y'all.

Help! My wedding is in May of 2007. I am having a TIME trying to decide what I want the attendants to wear. It will be an outdoor wedding...my aunt has a beautiful backyard overlooking a golf course. I don't want it to be too formal, since I know it will be warm here (in GA). I like coral peach for dresses, but I don't want the guys in tuxes. What do you think about the guys wearing white linen shirts and khaki-color linen pants? Also, I want our 2 daughters to wear a different color than the bridesmaids, so what color will compliment coral? Give me your honest opinions...and any suggestions that you may have. Also, I didn't want the dresses to be long...maybe tea length...mine will be long, but not very formal. Help!!!

Ivory or a touch of gold works well with coral.
I agree with the ivory or gold!

Never a halter top and gauchos ! Keep it elegant , suits are nice or even dresses that are the same color as the wedding party.
