KeepUp's Blog

I guess it's time to begin my blog. Especially after the talk FH and I had last night.

Ladies, FH and I had a long talk last night. There were several things WR that just are not coming together as planned. So we have decided to postpone. Boo :(

Actually we are doing a total wedding re-haul! We are putting more focus on the ceremony and scaling back the reception. FH and I are both "loners" and when we went through the guest list we just started realistically deciding who "needed" to be there based on their importance to, and interaction with, us. Let's just say we crossed off 87 people! So now we'll be doing a reception with heavy apps in the church's fellowship hall after the ceremony. We will do the cake cutting, tosses, our 1st dance, and a "celebration dance" with our attendees (a music mix with a slide, a stepper's cut, and a show-off circle, similar to a soul train line). We will have an "afterset" at a club owned by my daycare provider and her husband. They're providing free beer and we're doing 2 signature drinks that will be free - cash for everything else.

I'll keep ou ladies posted with some updates and DIY projects soon. We haven't set a new date but will be meeting with the pastor Sunday to see what's available. Keep us in your prayers that everything comes together!

Future, whenever and wherever you and FH decide to get married, as long as you, him, and the pastor are in attendance, everything will be just as it should be! The reception and afterset you plan on having sound like lots of fun! I know that God will guide you through this one Future, and I will be sure to keep you and FH in my prayers.

FMKU, girl i'm right with you. I just shaved my guest list from 98 to 66 and counting. I realized that being happy and healthy are the most important components of our wedding day, not inviting a whole bunch of folks who probably wouldn't even notice that they weren't invited. So here's to you, sweetie. Have you picked a new date yet?

Future-I totally understand where you guys are coming from! although I had a GREAT time at our Wedding, I realize now-the only thing that was for DH & I was the vows and the blended ceremony we did with my son--everything else was for OTHERS-1/2 of who didn't even show up! so yes, put the most emphasis into your ceremony because when it is all said and done, THAT is what will be the most memorable to you! :)

Re: KeepUp's Blog

Future ~ you're so very talented. I understand very much what you mean about scalling down. FH and I decided to have only family and very close friends at our reception because our respective churches was turning our wedding/reception into this zoo, is the best word I can come up with. I mean, they mean well and have represented family to me, but when my guest list toppled past 350, FH and I had to bow out gracefully. We spoke to our pastors and addressed the church and decided that we will be married in New York instead and cap our guest list at a maximum of 130 guests, including my very large wedding party. So, first, we're concentrating on family, next will be friends that have serious meaning into our lives, then will be church.

You can't accommodate everyone. Your wedding should always be a reflection of yours and your FH's style. Surround yourselves only with people that you know very well and interract with on a regular basis. I think you have the right of it Diva and will have lots more fun concentrating on having more at your ceremony. Please let us know as soon as you and FH set your future date. Also, let us know if you'll keep the same details as before or will you be changing everything as well.

Re: KeepUp's Blog

Realizing you need to scaledown can seem very overwhelming, and often disappointing to many brides. I think that it planning, you have to weigh planning 18+ months in advance, which gives you more time to save$$ and hence more flexibility-yet trying to be paitent, or do what i think the average bride does and try to plan a beautiful dream wedding in less than a year, for many in less than 9-10 months....Which can be limiting, if the money isn't really abundant. Nevertheless, its great to remember that, yes, you only get a chance to do it once, so its best to do what you can afford, and in scaling back, look and see if there are other places you can scale back in order to invite as many guests as you'd like to get there.
Scaling back is good, but it there is a downside with cutting guests: Many who are invited, and SAY they'll attend will not. We learned this the hard way by focusing on our huge families, only to have about 75% attend, with hurts because our other friends could have come in their place, so be careful. Look at all aspects of the list, and make sure you give the non-family members, and family members a good look, because like friends, family members have lives and may not be able to make it either....

Scaling back sounds sad, but it doesn't have to be...Its more like re-arranging the budget, and prioritizing. Big businesses do this almost every quarter, without decreasing the quality of the final outcome....Happy Planning!

Thanks for the encouragement ladies. It wasn't a money issue, just a personal choice to have the wedding WE want instead of the one everyone else EXPECTS us to have! We don't really go to parties or the clubs and all so why would we have an all out reception like that? We like the get togethers people have at their houses, the more intimte affairs, so we decided to structure our reception in that same type of environment.

My sentiments as well, hence my & FH's decision to have an intimate wedding with just family and close friends. I wish you all the best in putting together your plans.

Well thats the best decision any bride can make!

Congrats on reaching such an important milestone in wedding planning: Saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and REALLY having it YOUR WAY.

I think the truth is in most weddings, we give in to others in at least ONE aspect. For me it was scaling back a little more than we needed to because OTHERS felt like we were going all out, and having the wedding in the city we live in, instead of the city we wanted to have it in just to accomodate others...While you nevr really want to leave people out, you don't want to walk away with more regrets....You may always have a small one, but not for the whole thing....Anyways, remember its just one day, and everyhing will be beautiful and smooth:)

Ladies I'll have some pictures of DIY projects coming soon. I just finished the template for my programs (with placeholders until we set the new date). I'll pick up some ribbon and do a mock-up this weekend. Also doing a mock-up of the invitation! Stay tuned!

Nice choices Future. The MOH and BM dresses compliment each other nicely. Is the MOH dress an Alfred Angelo? If not, Alfred Angelo has one just like it. One of my MOH's originally picked that out but once I decided to put my MOH's in green instead of orange, she changed dresses and designers. Good Job, I think your ladies will look beautiful in those. Playfully flirty.

Teresa: The Hostess dress is Alfred Sung D329. It's only $82 from netbride.com!

MRS J: Our colors are claret (the dark red), gold and ivory. We're shooting for Friday August 8 (8-8-08)! The church is available, now I just have to check with my vendors.

Sidenote: That BM dress is going to be gorgeous in claret. Again, nice choice.

The GM are wearing black tuxes (I really want them in suits instead but we'll see). I'm looking for a tie with a nice print in claret and pocket squares. I don't really want the vest/tie combo. If we don't do the pocket squares they'll have a single calla lily bout.

The groom will be in ivory with an ivory/gold print tie and pocket square or a double calla bout.

What's on your mind Pamcrow? Sounds like you have an idea brewing!

Future-you better make a decision "quick" about tux or suits-because your FH is a TALL drink of water (that is my grandma's favorite slang for tall men), so I am sure he won't be able to just do the normal tux fitting or purchase a suit off the rack!! LOL

I was just wondering if it was you or someone else who mentioned their GM wearing tan or taupe suits/tuxedos. With everything you picked out so far, tan or taupe would look nice for the men. Especially along side the claret. Black is very formal and I get the impression from all your posts so far that you are aiming for a very fun nonpretentious day, thereby less formal in feel.

BTW, I haven't forgot about you teasing us with that camera phone pic. LOL

Re: KeepUp's Blog

Ok ladies the new date has been set - I don't think I mentioned that - it's August 8, 2008, a Friday evening at 6pm.

I've had a few successes and a few setbacks.

1. The dresses I wanted for the girls (posted above) will not arrive in time unless we pay for a rush. I'm not paying and don't want my girls to pay $40-50 extra for dresses they may not wear again. So, I've located a few more options that they can get in 3-5 weeks. I'll post them when we make the decision.

2. I have to locate a new photographer. My original one is booked formy date. I have a couple appointments lined up though so I should be ok.

3. I purchased the flowergirl baskets and flowers for them (they're not throwing petals), ringbearer's chest (no pillow for my little man), shadowbox frame and sand for the unity sand ceremony. I also finished decorating the broom (will post pics later due to a missing camera battery).

4. I received my veil (don't know if I'm keeping it though) and personalized undies for the wedding day.

5. I can not find the dress for my daughter posted above! If anyone has a Burlington Coat Factory near them and want to look for me I'd be very grateful! I need a 3T or 4T and the style number is S7047D. The brand is Cinderella. HELP ME OUT ViSISTAS!

6. My bridal party consists of some of the busiest women in the world! I'll have to sit on my MatronOH's doorstep to get my dress, measure her for hers, and make her help assemble the invites! My MOH is in Mississippi so she can't help right now. I may mail her a set to assemble though! LOL! One of my BM just had surgery so she has a temporary pass. Another lives a couple hours away as well. The last has a daughter graduting from HS and going on 2 proms so she already told me she can't help more until June. Uggghhhhhhh! The on;y thin keeping me sane is that I'm a little anal over certain details so I'm not all the way mad they're not helping!

7. Oh, and I received the supplies for my monogram cake topper and have started on it as well.

Hopefully as this next month progresses I'll have something new for you ladies to read on a regular basis! (DANG, she posted something ELSE! LOL!)

Your broom is very unique. I've never seen a broom done with jewels like that before. I like it. It coordinates well with the look of your programs. Are you planning to add a bow? A puffy bow made out of the same ribbon would give it added dimension and an extra little "uumph" to it.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Pamcrow I was trying to figure out what to add to the broom. I wanted it to be simple but I also want it to "pop." Can you see if you can find a couple pictures of the type of bow I should add? Bows can be tied so many different ways!

I'm on a roll! Here are my FG baskets (they will not be throwing petals)!
