Maiden/Married Names

Hi ladies, we got to know each others children's names. Now I am curious to know what your maiden and married names are. Will you hypenate your names, use your maiden name, or take on your husband's name? My maiden name is McCullough and my married name will be Holiday. I personally will be taking my husband's name.

Re: Maiden/Married Names

I must say I love your Amercia names...very unique. I have never heard the name Holiday...oh yes Billy Holiday the fmous singer...I still love it thou.
While I love all the different names and the different ways they ar pronounced...I am more intrigued by the strange surnames....Like Bailey and George - I think they are so cool. My maidan name is Knowles and marriage name is Thompson, had my father sign for me my maiden name would have been Ettienne...nothing cool about them thou.
I CHANGD MY RESPONSE BECUASE I REALIZED THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS POSTED IN BABIES NAME.....

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Re: Maiden/Married Names

Yes Holiday is a very common American name. The singer Billy Holliday spells her's with two l's. Can you believe my FH wanted to name my daughter Billie? I wasn't having it. So being the jazz man that he is, we compromised and named my daughter after Dizzy Gallepsie's song "A night in Tunisia".

My maiden name is Wright. My married name will be Pope. I think I'll take his last name b/c I don't want to be Pope Wright or the Wright Pope! Ha!

I will be taking my husband's name but will hypenate it with my maiden name. My son (who has a different father - who's deceased) has my last name and I don't want him to feel left out.

I think it is absolutely wonderful Askalot to hyphenate your name so that your son will not be left out.

Re: Maiden/Married Names

I am also going to hyphenate my name. My maiden name is Ross and my married name will be Bostic (uugghhh...I hate it!). I think Nicole Ross-Bostic sounds better than just Nicole Bostic. And also for the same reason as askalot. My son's last name is Ross, and I don't want him to feel left out. If I had a daughter, it would be different because her last name would change one day eventually.

Bossy I think it's great that you guys are remembering your sons. My daughter's last name is already Holiday and when she get's married she will probably change it (although she says she will keep her maiden name -- you see things very different at 15).

Re: Maiden/Married Names

My maiden last name is Edwards and my married name will be Randolph. I will also be hyphenating my name because FH wants me to keep my name since his SIL kept her last name (he will be the second in his family to marry) and he hates his last name. We were already giving our two angels both names so I plan to keep it. Before FH was adopted his last name was Christian and we were thinking about using that name but decided against it so we wouldnd offend the family or being HUGE reminder of the past. And it will be easier to add a letter to my signiture than to create a whole new one. I have a capital L turning into a capital D which loops into an E and all I have to do it add R (you must see it to understand). So my new name will be LKiesha Edwards-Randolph (but I wish it was LKiesha Edwards-Christian)

As stated earlier I will be taking husband's name. I wouldn't hyphenate my name if I wanted to, because it would just be too long McCullough-Holiday, and it would never fit on any forms. I also don't think it sounds good that way.

The good thing about my new last name is it's short - Burns. But geesh I hate it. It sounds like I have a VD or something lol. When I do my legal matters, I will probably just sign Katrease Burns. But, when it's time for school matters (for my son & daughter), I will use Katrease Mallary-Burns. Yes, it's long but my poor daughter has it the worst - Kyasia Joslyn Mallary-Burns. lol My aunt said "Damn, I need to use a whole envelope just for her name". lmao.

One of the reason I use both is because there is another Charlotte Thompson here and the heffer will not stop writing rubber cheques so to avoid situations like that I use both...with my work ID the people could not get all that on I told them use only "C" but please put Knowles-Thompson...I tired having to say it's not my bounce cheque...it's not me!!!!!!!!! oh I did the same thing when I went to register to vote....I always explain my reason and they understand.

I personal would not stay with a man that beat me, that is not something that I would be able to look past or move on from. But however if your Love is strong enough it can withstand any obstacle that the Devil throws at you and the marriage. As long as we keep Gob first all will be blesses

Re: Maiden/Married Names

I agree that sometimes you have divorce. As Charley stated about the abusive relationship.I wouldnt stay.I dont care how much love you have for someone,if you constantly beating on me like its your job I cant stay with you. My mother went through that with my biological father and had she bot left she would be dead by now. She went throught it for 3 years because she was scared of him but her believing God would fix it got her out. (She left when I was 1 1/2 and my brother was 2). Stuff like that also gets passed down to your kids.Would you want your kids to see this type of stuff happening to you? Waht about when they grow up and become abusive or allow others to abuse them? What could you say to help them when you allowed it to happen to yourself, all out of love...think about it...............I wouldnt do that to myself or my kids. Growing up seeing that kind of stuff wasnt fun or cute and it just wont work for me.I refuse to let that happen to me and I pray that you wont let it happen to you either.

Jonique I understand what you are saying cause now a days marriages don't last. Sometimes I think about that and wonder, it's a little scary. Somebody once told me that maintaining their marriage was the hardest thing they had to do and I think nursing is hard, OH BOY!

I felt the same way. If you read my earlier post, I said I was hyphenating. Today I have been married exactly 2 months (yaaahhh) and I use Nicole Bostic. Although my legal name is Nicole Ross-Bostic I have only used it once. I was worried about dropping my maiden name because of my son, but it's really no big deal. He'll alway be my son regardless of the name. Of course I'll still use my maiden name for his school purposes, but that's about it.

It will be hard, because I am used to calling his mother Mrs. Gaskin, but now I'll be Mrs. Gaskin, so I have to get used to responding to that....anyways, I HAVE to drop mine!

FOR REAL HAMPTON, 1ST MARRIAGE I HYPHENATED ESPECIALLY SINCE BOTH LAST NAMES WERE COMMON. THIS TIME, I HATE THE LAST NAME BUT LOVE THE MAN SOOO. I AM GOING TO DROP BOTH. INITIALLY I KEPT MY MAIDEN NAME AND I WAS FELICIA SANDERS-SMITH. MY 3 OLDER CHILDREN FROM 14--19 ARE SMITH'S. I KEPT IT AFTER THE DIVORCE FOR THE CHILDREN. NOW THEY ARE OLDER AND I HAVE THE 2YEAR OLD. HE IS A, READY LADIES,,,,GUPTON!!!! SOOO I'M THINKING OF LETTING GO OF SANDERS AND SMITH AND JUST GOING GUPTON. FELICIA SANDERS-GUPTON DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME RING OR FLOW TO IT AS SANDERS-SMITH.
