Maybe i watch too much CSI but the idea of a kidnapping creeps me out! Seriously, i think it's probably a lot of fun for people who are familiar with the tradition but in this day and age half my family would need oxygen before the groom could make his plea for "ransom". More power to the "kidnappees" but I think i'll stick to my dollar dance.
Huh . . . kidnappees that sounds like slang for little girls whose mommmas caint braid. I'll be in the corner . . .
I have seen the dollar dance and no its not tacky. If it was so tacky no one else would have incorporated it into there reception. I have not yet decided if I am going to have this done.
At first i thought these were cheesy and greedy, but my brother did it at his wedding 2 weeks ago and it was tooo cute....
Picture this:
The bride's 5-year old nephew was caught in a perfect photo with his dollar in hand waiting to dance with his auntie the bride. Actually he was the first one ready and ran up fast....my brother had his friend with him collecting the money and the bride had the cutest little bag to collect money. Of course people brought more than a dollar. One mutual friend even did a funny "hoochie like dance" in front of the bride, but it was more like her brother doing the dance so it was all in good fun, and something to laugh at....Little girls, grandparents, aunts, and uncles all lined up with money in hand...it was just too cute....I tried to give a visual picture for anyone who doubts the need or lovely effect this activity can have at the wedding.....The DJ played a great carribean dance-like song so it was very up-beat, not sleazy or slow lovey-dovey song....
I think the dollar dance is fun and not cheesy at all if announced properly. I see it as a way for the Bride & Groom to briefly spend a little one on one time with the guest. It's a little more than just stopping at each table and thanking each guest from coming. I helped plan my friends wedding and we used the dollar dance to get rid of the centerpieces. The first person at table to pull out dollar took home the centerpiece. People argued over who pulled there's out first. It was to funny.

How did you word that, because I have the same problem but I don't know how to tactfully ask for money or gift cards.
[quote="NikkiG"]I think a dollar dance is a good idea. After spending so much on the preparation for the day I am sure that extra cash would be much welcomed. I would certainly welcome it.I specifically asked for monetary contributions instead of gifts as we don't live where the wedding will be.I don't think the airline or customs would take it kindly for me to be travelling with 10 toasters,a microwave, 5 irons etc. in my luggage. Some people think this is tacky asking for money instead of gifts but i am being realistic.
