Who is paying for your day?

I am just curios if any brides have the traditonal set up. Is anyone's parents footing the bill and the groom's family getting the rehearsal dinner and the honeymoon?

We are paying for ours all by ourselves. I am glad because it's myday, my way, my pay. lol

My groom's family took care of the rehearsel dinner...as you know...lol Family and friends cooked the food for the reception, so in order to purchase the food, we had family donations. Everything else we paid for ourselves. I

Traditional? I believe the traditional things we did were send out invites, have rehearsal, and say "I Do".

Or did anyone register for fancy china and stuff? Im going to buy one set this year and one set when I am thirty whether I get married or not. I want to give them to the two daughters I plan to have or adopt.
I want to get two sets of silver also.

Re: Who is paying for your day?

My mommy footed the bill but she let me have everything my way. My Nana paid for some things also. My DH father footed the rehearsal bills and rings. My Nana's gift was our honeymoon. I think it was not traditional because my father did not contribute a dime but he did come.

I am about to order a set of gold trimmed china, glasses, and silverware now. The silver chest will have my maiden name on it. I am planning to give the wedding set to the oldest daughter and the maiden set to the younger. Or my nieces.

DH and I paid for EVERYTHING..since I had been married before, I didn't even ask for any outside help...
Nope, didn't do a registry or purchase china...actually I wanted to put 'no gifts' on the invites since but my coordinator said that was tacky...

Re: Who is paying for your day?

Yeah that is tacky to put it in the invite but we didn't do a registry either we just had a cash only reception but it was by word of mouth we did get like three gifts. Honestly we really got alot of money back and DH father gave us a down payment for a new home which was a blessing. When I tell you ladies God is good I am not lying he is magnificant not because of the money we got back but just because he has really brought us far in life and we have him to thank for everything he has done for us.

Re: Who is paying for your day?

Try Bank of America we opened a money market account and we already made money but you have to watch out for the minimums and you can only do but so many transactions per month. We did a couple of CD's also and they are great. We did the 7 month ones but the interest rate was great. But keep in mind you can't touch that money for the 7 months and the min is 10000 but the return is well worth it.
Girl I need to go work for the bank I am sitting here promoting them like this.

Just about the same for me T. lol
But our parents did help out a bit. DH's stepmom took care of the servers, they all work for her.
DH's mom paid for the Pastor, she told me it was a gift but no she asking for the money back!
My mom paid for the glasses and liquor
my step dad paid for the limo

i dont think I am putting the parents names on the invites because I am illegitimate and have my dad's last name so I will just have me and my FH on the invites and put my mom and my sister's dad (her ex) on the programs. LOL

LOL. I am in my twenties. I just call her my bride as a joke. We are still friends and she wants me to go to some home buying events with her so I will go. I am a very supportive person.

I dont think it is odd to be happy and helpful that a friend is buying a home with her husband. I think the rate I found on my money market is excellent.

What is strange about being supportive and saving for a home. I plan to buy one next year. I think that is good.

Bride is applicable to the first year of wifehood so although the wedding is over if she needed help writing thank you notes or any post wedding events I would still help her.

I dont think anything I have done or said is "suspect." I am not the type of woman with my face all contorted and hating on folks. I like to see people happy and being supportive is the friend thing to do.
It's all good though. LOL. I am still in the corner myself for reopening an old post on infidelity.

I'm glad I am using all our own money. That way I dont have to worry as much about what people will think. When the parents pay they can be overbearing. I was just curious because today's couples are footing most if not all the bill in may cases.

Re: Who is paying for your day?

My mother paid for my dress, and her and my dad gave about $4000 towards the reception. The rest of that 30K was all on us. His mother was supposed to do the rehearsal dinner for us but went out of work on disability shortly before the wedding so she couldn't afford to do it. Both my parents are on total disability and if they had it, I know they would have paid for the entire thing. I know how much it hurt them that they couldn't do more so I still listed my parents and his mother on the invites as if they were paying for the wedding.

Re: Who is paying for your day?

FH and I will pay for everything ourselves, with the exception of the Photography and Flowers, which will be paid by our MOH and the Videography and Limos, which will be paid by our Best Man. In our culture, it's a tradition to do so.

As far as the food is concerned, we were gifted with the catering by one of the vendors that I use a lot (She's awesome!!!). I also have 5 young ladies from our church who wants to volunteer to be our servers for the day as their gift to us (aren't the youth group thoughful?) That's all we have so far, but as I've said in a previous post and at the advice of my sister Pamcrow, I plan on accepting all the hookups that comes my way without asking of course.

As far as registering, we're registered at Macy's and JCPenneys. I love it though because every so often, we keep on receiving things from people from our wish list. It makes sense though because it lets everyone know what you want and you'll not be expecting 5 toasters on your wedding day (LMAO)

Re: Who is paying for your day?

My mom and stepdad gave us about 3,000
DH grandmother gave us 2,200
My mom's boss gave 1,000 toward flowers
My aunt payed for the DJ
My sister funded my candy station, and the rest was on me and DH.

[quote="mycenae1918"]A downpayment for a home is certainly a blessing. Im opening a mony market account to put my home buying money in. I cant wait. I can only afford something small but I will make it a home.

Super smart! Talk to a good Realtor. You would be surprised with what you can afford. My 22 year old sister bought her first home in Norfolk and she was only making 33 grand a year. A good Realtor was all she needed to find loopholes and a really great deal in a upscale neighborhood.
